    Sarah Davis
Hi all – thanks for joining tonight – hope you all had a FAB bankholiday???
    1) Welcome to our new therapists:

To anyone who is new to the team meeting please can you post a quick into for yourself, discipline and areas in which you will be working

We would all like to make you very welcome. I’m sure you’ll find everyone very helpful and friendly so fire away with any questions from any of us.
Fire away peeps – if you press enter we can start reading
    Sarah Hodgson
    Hi everyone! 🙂
    Victoria Robinson
I’m Victoria and I’m doing SLT in Yorkshire 🙂
    Sarah Davis
I’m just going to start typing on the next topic too – but new ladies do type your summaries in and we will read and respond 🙂
    2) Journal Club– Lets get this set up and moving
Righto – lets get this journal club off the ground, is everyone still keen too?
    Jessica Sexton
    yes definitely
    Victoria Robinson
    yes:)
    Rachel Harrison
Yes, sounds good. I’ve added my name to the list.
    Sarah Davis
Great – thats what I was going to say about next steps then, if everyoe can add their name to the list
Dont worry about naming a journal right now, you can decide nearer the time
The process will be is that this month Shahzeb will review her journal article – she will post a
    Shahzeb Kausar
Yes- it’s my turn, I will review an article and share within this week
    Sarah Davis
summary on the journal club discussion board and a reference to the article.
    Karen Newton
Can ITS get a team athens account or similar?
    Jessica Sexton
and then it’s my turn next month!
    Sarah Davis
So Sai – correct me if Im wrong v- is it the intention that we all read the actual article or that we just read the summary from the therapist and comment?
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think it might help to read the article and the summary
    Lisa Franklin
Hi all I am going to be updating the Journal Club on the back end but you should all be able to request memebrship
    Sarah Davis
Righto – so how do we all get to read the journal – do we scan a copy if there is no web link for it?
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
It is essential to critically appraise the paper and use the evidence to inform our clinical practice
    CASP is great
check out evidence-based practice on the RCSLT website
    Emily Breden joined the conversation
    Shahzeb Kausar
I was planning to use the RCSLT critical appraisal framework, what do you think Sai, Sarah?
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
As many of you already know, the next RCSLT conference in Sept is on bridging gaps between research evidence and clinical practice.
    Sarah Davis
Sai – what’s your advice on how we all see the article though?
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    I think it’s good
    Sarah Davis
Scan it and upload if there isnt an online link
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
Using a framework to critically appraise a paper really helps
most papers are now easily accessible
    Sarah Davis
I think it would be useful Sai if you could provide one framework that we all agree to use, would that help everyone?
So 1) Choose and read the article
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I would recommended considering a paper that has clinical relevance in your area of interest.
    Sarah Davis
    2) Use the framework Sai gives us to review it
    3) upload the scanned article to share with the team or provide an online link
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    CASP is available online
    Sarah Davis
    4) open disucssion from the team about the article to reflet on our clinical practce
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I’ll send it again if that helps
    Sarah Davis
Ok so 2) use the CASP as the framework to review the article
Lisa perhaps we could add these instrictions on the journal club discussion board please
    Shahzeb Kausar
Silly question, but Sai could you spell out what the CASP stands for so it’s easier to find online?
    Sarah Davis
So Shahzeb are you confident to kick us off and let us know when the CASP is shared on the disucsion forum and the article link
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
If the team members are pressed for time to read the article, it could be helpful to read the summary presented by the therapist and discuss its clinical applications
    Sarah Davis
Just so everyone is clear – the discussion will be via the dicussion board and not by this chat function – this will alllow active conversation about it across the momnht
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
what’s really important is to apply research evidence to clinical practice
    Sarah Davis
    month even!
    Make sense everyone???
    Judith Eley
    Yes that sounds good!
    Rachel Harrison
    Yep
    Shahzeb Kausar
Yes- I will start us off
    Isobel Baird
    Yes
    Victoria Robinson
    yes 🙂
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think as therapists it is really important to make well-informed judgements regarding interventions
    Karen Newton
Maybe we could then have a summary of key points/outcomes presented at the team meetings…only briefly
    Sarah Davis
I also think we should consdier the merits of Practie Based Evidence and there really is alot coming up now saying EBP is not the b all and end all when acutally not alot of research is being carried out and published but yet there is an awful lot of Practiced based evidence being gathered – just food for thought.
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
If you need any help, please do let me know. I’m happy to provide literature reviews, or any other background info
    Dollaghan has an interesting perspective
    Sarah Davis
Okdokey so I think we’ve got the jounral club officially up and runnning.
    3) Local SIGS/CENS – agree attendance and representation at each
    Lisa Franklin
    Cool
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
She has an interesting take on EBP
I’m happy to share info on Bilingualism SIG and any other study days at Uni
    Sarah Davis
I know we have spoken about this before- but I really would like for us all to take a SIG which we become a member of and collate the useful CPD to feedback to each other. If we create a SIGS board on the discussion forum, would each therapist be happy to assign themselves to a SIG and agree to attend and feedback to the team – this really is great and cheap CPD and the SIGs do attract some excellent speakers
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
If anybody in London is interested in attending seminars/talks at City, please do let me know.
    Sarah Davis
I think it wuld be good for you to post in an email Sai what is coming up as Im sure if of interest some of us would even travel 🙂
    Karen Newton
I am looking into the E mids ASD one to see if I can make the next one – will keep you all updated
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    yeah sure
    Will do
The Bilingualism CEN is scheduled for 19th June
    Sarah Davis
Great Karen – we will post a list of SIGs – MDT based too on the SIGs/Local group discussion board and can we all commit to consistently attending one and feeding back to keep us all most up to date please
    Lisa Franklin
Yes I would like to get a list of important CENs on there and in time we may even be able to hold internal CENs who knows
    Sarah Davis
Lisa – again will you create a discussion board
    Lisa Franklin
But this is a great way for you to be developing specialisms 🙂
    I will indeedy
    Sarah Davis
haha – beat me to it – yep would be fab
    Lisa Franklin
On my list for once the site can get new content
    Victoria Robinson
i think that is a great idea 🙂
    Sarah Davis
    4) Quarterly locality based team meetings – more PDP opportunities
So it really was SO SO nice to meet many of you
all in person at our team day
We are genuinely keen to create more face to face contact within the team so we can all develop peer and friendship opportunties
We therefore want to look at hosting quarterly – Locality based ITS team sessions (to help with travel) and then an annual team day once a year
    Sarah Hodgson
    I really like this idea!
    Sarah Davis
What are your thoughts on having more face to face PDP everyone?
    Nimisha Mistry
That sounds like a good idea and a great way to network with fellow colleagues.
    Victoria Robinson
i think it would be great to have more face to face!
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    that would be great
    Karen Newton
    Sounds great
    Lisa Franklin
    Fabulousa!
    Judith Eley
    Yes I am game!
    Shahzeb Kausar
Yes definitely would help with PDP and to feel more like a team to have more face to face contact
    Lisa Franklin
I was thinking with minimal therapists in the south somewhere like Sheffield/Derby maybe doable for the yorkshire and East Mids group
    Jessica Sexton
sounds like a fab idea…not sure which area i would fit into though!
    Lisa Franklin
Again there will be a forum for each region for PDP opps
    Sarah Davis
Brill – So we were then thinking about what PDP opportunites and how to really ensure we are getting hands on practical PDP – I think an excellent example at the team day was Seans AAC session and Pams puppetry and story telling
A not so great example was the SI session – which was really not practical at all and I think we would probably all agree sadly was the least informative.
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I used her story telling strategy in my sessions last week. It was very helpful
    Emily Breden
    excellent news Sai 🙂
    Judith Eley
That is a shame as I know you had high hopes for the SI session.
    Sarah Davis
Oh good Sai……. We do have some great specialist mentors who I think it would be good to call upon and of course we also have a whole wealth of skills across the team
    Karen Newton
Although not interactive I still learnt a lot from the SI session
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think all the sessions were excellent
    Sarah Davis
We really did Judith and the speaker had excatly the same bried as all the other speakers who were all very much more handon – just quite ironica that in an SI session we DIDNT move!!!
Im glad you werent all as dis heartened as me then – as honeslty SI is so so much more / better than this
    …….
    Shahzeb Kausar
The theory in SI session was informative. It was lacking in practical ideas so perhaps that’s why you feel disappointed
    Sophie Bourne joined the conversation
    Judith Eley
It wasn’t an experience in sensory deprivation was it?!
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think being SI trained is specialised. But some practical tips would have helped
    Sarah Davis
Indeed Shahzeb – I think I really wanted you to come away with an ability to use sensory snacks and have a good idea of sensory cirucits – I think so Judith – haha. So if we were to make a forum for quarte
Forum that lists the quarterly meetings
In all honesty what will be a good time to hold these?
    Lisa Franklin
    On my list ha ha
    Sarah Davis
Once a quarter – on a weekend? A weekday? It’s always tricky to find a good time for all
    Lisa Franklin
Would you all prefer school holidays
    weekend/weekday?
    ha!
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    Saturdays perhaps?
    Isobel Baird
    yeah Saturdays
    Victoria Robinson
    i would prefer weekends too
    Nimisha Mistry
    Weekends sound good
    Jessica Sexton
school hols would be ideal for me!
    Lisa Franklin
Would you prefer saturdays out of term time or during term time
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
Weekdays might get tricky with Uni, school etc
    Sarah Davis
We really do want attendace to be good if we are inveting in PDP = in all honesty the Team day cost near on 5K and we sadly only for 1/3 of the team so we want to ensure that the spend ut offers the right value back as a team
    £5K
    Lisa Franklin
I’m conscious of those who go on holidays when mid term breaks etc
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    Term time would be great
    Lisa Franklin
    *investing
    Victoria Robinson
i think term time would be better as people tend to book to go away in holiday times 🙂
    Sarah Davis
I think term time and a Saturday might seem like the best idea
    Judith Eley
School holidays are my busiest time so term time would be better. I haven’t found when my quiet time is yet!:(
    Lisa Franklin
Is 3 times per year enough perhaps e.g. March, July (before schools break up), October/November
Just thinking November – January is usually difficult for everyone with Christmas holidays
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    yes probably
    Sarah Davis
Do we then count March as the whole team day – so we miss Easter next year
    Lisa Franklin
    I think so
So do we look at Team Day – March, Regional meet ups July and October each year?
    Sarah Davis
Ok so March – whole team day – July and November?
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    sounds brilliant
    Lisa Franklin
How does that fit with you all guys?
    all you guys lol
    Sarah Hodgson
    yea think will work well!
    Isobel Baird
    Sounds good
    Lisa Franklin
Will having dates well enough in advance also help
    Sarah Davis
So we will be planning for local te next local team day in July
    Lisa Franklin
say if the management team plan dates and send these out asap for your diaries
    Judith Eley
    Yes great
    Karen Newton
    sounds good to me
    Catherine Tattersall
Hi All, I feel a little as I am butting into a conversation with a completely different topic but here is my brief intro of myself … I worked for several years in Liverpool in the acute wards, and critical care (mostly for dysphagia), but my main focus was in stroke rehab both in the wards and early supported discharge service. I am now lecturing on the speech therapy courses at the University of Sheffield (which is also where I qualified). Before I was an SLT I lectured in cognitive psychology at the university of manchester (mainly around speech/language processing and aphasia). Before that I was in Philadelphia working with SLTs and others carrying out research into semantic and phonological processing in aphasia. My main areas of interest are acquired neurological conditions including dementia and other degenerative diseases.
    Sarah Davis
Ok I think we will also then try and feed in the PDP that takes place in each locality across the team too as way of feedback
    Lisa Franklin
Agreed. Again Sarah perhaps just us cheaply recording these and making available to the team will be good
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    Sounds amazing, Catherine!
    Welcome to our team 🙂
    Sarah Davis
Thanks Sophie – not at all – We move rapidly in these meetings, so please dont hesitate to press enter at any point and we will all read 🙂
    Judith Eley
Hi Catherine – it is good to have you in the team
    Sarah Davis
I think it will be really useful to record the sessisons and share with the rest of the team if we all feel we can manage this
    Catherine Tattersall
    Thanks
    Sarah Davis
    5) Enquiries and outstanding cases to fill
    Emily Breden
There will be some therapists unable to attend at some stage so recording will be incredibly helpful so therapists don’t feel neglected.
    Sarah Davis
Ok so you might have noticed that Lisa is going to send out a summary round up of open enquiries on a thursday pm each week to ensure we can round up any open enquries before the weekend
    Lisa Franklin
Indeed, thank you all for your responses guys
    Sarah Davis
Thanks so much for coming back to these qucikly, it really does help us to respond to the enquiries quickly. So the plan is respond as an enquiry comes through = yes/no within 12 hours. Then a round up of open enquiries will come round on Thursday – perhaps with a few dangling carrotts – 1/2 paid travel time and mileage etc if we;ve able to negotiate this further due to struggle to locating a local therapist
    Judith Eley
I am not replying to any SALT referrals as they are not for me – I hope this is OK 🙂
    Lisa Franklin
    Fine Judith
    🙂
    Sarah Davis
    6) Specialist mentoring – feedback on how this is working, which mentors are you keen to carry on with, any not so useful, how many sessions to cover in one night, trying to avoid taking up too many nights of therapists – hence carrying out two every middle Wednesday a month?
Can you read the above and make comments peeps
    Emily Breden
    Presently we’re at 1 per month (Wednesdays) and this tends to be 2 sessions, 6.30 – 7.30 & 7.30 – 8.30
    Sarah Davis
    Yep middle wednesday right Emily?
    Emily Breden
generally yes, Its the 21st this month
    Sarah Davis
    Ok
So your thoughts peeps – any SM’s that are not so useful or that you are inclined not to attend?
Im mindful that we spend mentoring budgets wisely and that this is actually working for you, otherwise we are better to spend the funds else where
    Lisa Franklin
Also are you all happy with 2 per night
We are conscious not to take up lots of your evenings but you accessing mentoring from a range of areas
    Karen Newton
Personally I tend to be drawn to the ones related to clients I have and try and attend others if I can
    Sarah Davis
The attendance hasnt always been great and the requests before hand for agendas a little empty
    Karen Newton
Yes I prefer 2 in 1 night rather than over 2 nights
    Victoria Robinson
I found the bilingual one and the adult ABI/TBI ones really useful as the mentors gave lots of tips
    Isobel Baird
    I prefer 2 in 1 night too
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think the session on school-based work was very helpful.
    Rachel Harrison
Yes, I thought the TBI one was good too and two in one night works for me.
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
2 in 1 night works better for me.
    Sarah Davis
Remember we are also building the relationship with these mentrors also so that we can call upon their advice at other times too,
    Emily Breden
Susan was excellent and she said that she really enjoyed the session and format too.
    Catherine Tattersall
Two in one night is better for me also.
    Sarah Davis
ie you are working with a dysfluency client say and you need specific advice re your client that the team has helped you with as much as they can
Ok so 2 in 1 night looks good
Is Wednesday night mid month ok? We are trying to avoid team meeting weeks/NQP meeting weeks/days
    Emily Breden
Great, I shall stick to that format then. Just the day to confirm
    Karen Newton
I agree re agenda items but I also feel that mentoring provides an opportunity for mentors to select info that they feel would be beneficial for us. i.e evidence based practice, example therapy activities
    Isobel Baird
    Weds is good for me
    Karen Newton
    Wed fine for me
    Catherine Tattersall
Yes, Wednesday is good for me.
    Sarah Davis
Yes I agree Emily and I have asked Emily to steer the mentors down this route, so ie present us with assessment and therapy material in their field so we are compeltely up to date etc and call upon EBP too
    Shahzeb Kausar
I have a request for SM. The new SEN law is to be implemented from September, can we have someone like Lorraine from NASEN back to update us near the end of term? There were still some debates ongoing at the time and these may have been ironed out by the end of term hopefully
    Sarah Davis
Then we will ask clinical caseload questions in a time slot too
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I find information on resources and clinical developments very helpful
    Emily Breden
I’ve included Lorraine in my contact list for the next set of dates.
    Sarah Davis
Yep did people find Lorraines helpful?
    Shahzeb Kausar
    Thanks Emily
    Sarah Davis
So Em – can we make a standard agenda that says
Assessments to share info about in this field – talking through informal and formal assessments
Therapy – tips/intevnetions to share in this field
    Case discussion
So those 3 areas – everyone agree?
    Victoria Robinson
    sounds good
    Judith Eley
    Yes
    Catherine Tattersall
    looks good
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
My presentation this term was on dynamic assessments. I’m happy to share it once it’s graded
    Emily Breden
No problem, I can put this together tomorrow/Thurs and we can get the next 12 month sfirmed up.
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
But if any of you are interested in dynamic assessments, please give me a shout and I can send some fab paperps
    *papers
    Sarah Davis
Great – that’s agreed then – before we move on – any SM areas which are missing
    Shahzeb Kausar
Sai DA papers would be great if you can share some
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    yeah sure
    Emily Breden
We’re missing ASD currently so we could do with a mentor for this if anyone has any suggestions.
    Karen Newton
    Who is our current ASD..
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I think it would be great to have a specialist share their expertise in this area
    Karen Newton
oh just seen your post Emily!
    Sarah Davis
Oh yes for sure we need ASD – Em didnt we have someone in ASD replace the old mentor
    Victoria Robinson
I think there may have been an SLT lecturer at Leeds Met who was a specialist in ASD
    Emily Breden
We did have one, but they weren’t terribly flexible with their approach towards mentoring.
    Lisa Franklin
    Who is our ALD mentor?
    Karen Newton
agree we definitely need this area!
    Gina Davies – aiming high!!
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    she’s awesome
    Sarah Davis
I thought we had a replacement though – we have had two take the ASD sessions now havent we?
Haha Karen – you make the deal and she’s in 🙂
    Jessica Sexton
wednesdays aren’t always good for me but i can always move stuff around…and mid month is perfect 🙂
    Sarah Davis
Em – ALD – comes under LD I think
    Emily Breden
I’ll get onto ASD in the morning and we’ll see who we can get sorted asap.
    Sarah Davis
    Ok thaks Kirsty
Is anyoe else seeing Kirsty as work or is that just me?
    Lisa Franklin
Did everyone find it easier that you were invited and it was added to your calendar?
As opposed to looking up the dates and adding these?
    Victoria Robinson
found it easier getting calendar invites
    Isobel Baird
    yes
    Sarah Hodgson
    yea a lot easier!
    Sophie Bourne
    same
    Sarah Davis
Yep I agree we need to be using calender invites alot more
    Catherine Tattersall
    yes
    Karen Newton
    http://www.ginadavies.co.uk/ – Emily – she may have suggestions…
    Emily Breden
    lovely, thanks Karen
    Lisa Franklin
Cool Em Could you be using these for the SM when you secure dates.
    Sarah Davis
Which also leads me to say – DONT forget to invite your clients to their appts.
    Lisa Franklin
Also add the mentor and some brief info in the ‘notes section’
    Shahzeb Kausar
Yes and my phone beeped with reminder with calender invite
    Lisa Franklin
    Technology eh
    Sarah Davis
Good idea – and on topic /notes- you can then add the agenda on their – ie. the 3 parts of that template I have just suggested
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
I still have to get my head around this
    Sarah Davis
    Good with that Em
    Emily Breden
    yup 🙂
    Sarah Davis
Sai you will be a whizz in no tme
    time
    Lisa Franklin
Sai, remember to give me a shout and I will help you with any of this
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    I don’t share your optimism, Lisa 🙂
    Lisa Franklin
REMINDER: backend of the website, you all need to update your image and profile info please
    Sarah Davis
Cool so google calender invites it is then
    Lisa Franklin
The handbook under admin processes outlines everything you need to know about Google apps etc
    Jessica Sexton
haha sarah it’s jess not kirsty…i think your computer may have saved me as work but pretty sure its saved as jess on mine
    Sarah Davis
Yep I really think once our dicussion forums get moving etc we will use the therapists area so much more
    Lisa Franklin
Any info you think is useful please let me know so I can add to the handbook
    Sarah Davis
Haha there you go Jess now is anyone seeing Jess or work?!?! Confuses me 🙂
    Sarah Hodgson
sorry, i’m going to have to leave the meeting early. I will finish updating my profile during the week. Thanks for all info tonight! 🙂
    Sarah Hodgson left the conversation
    Sarah Davis
Also Lisa can you now add the team meeting minutes and NQP meeting minutes to new forums please so if you miss a session you can catch up on minutes there?
    7) Feedback from recent SIGS and Training sessions / conferences – anyone able to feedback on recent courses?

    8) THERAPISTS Clinical discussion/Feedback
Clinical queries to share with the group
Wants and needs – admin support, therapy resources, referral pathways explaining – now’s your chance to say and share your positive and negative experiences
    9) Future CPD OPPORTUNITIES
Just mindful of time now ladies, so thinking about the above ponts.
Clinical disucssion – anyone have any cases they need to run by the team for support?
Good to see you all emailing the team readily these days to give each other advice and support
    anyone??
    Judith Eley
I attended a Medico-legal conference which was excellent and looked at the Jackson reforms (1 year on) plus holiday and transport issues. It was very OT focussed though.
    Isobel Baird
I’m sorry but I need to go I have an early start in the morning but thanks for all the information
    Isobel Baird left the conversation
    Sarah Davis
    Thanks Isobel
Medico legal coferences are interesting Judith arent they even if not undertaking medico leagal work
    10) Randstad UPDATES

    11) A.O.B / NEXT TEAM MEETING DATES
Accounts – as you will have seen Ray’s team has taken over the accounts from Karen and Gails team, so far so good. Can I remind those of you in contracted school settings, to submit a CIR EVERY session you are contracted for and put a brief descritpion as usual – if it is the holidays- just mark by the date Easter holidays etc
If you are ill – then note therapist ill- XX date provided as replacement
    Victoria Robinson
I think the handbook is really good at explaining how to do the CIRs etc
    Sarah Davis
Oh great to hear this Victoira 🙂
    Victoria Robinson
can i just check..do we not get email confirmations back to say accounts have received the CIRs etc
    Sarah Davis
Lisa has worked mega hard on the handbook
So those of you who’ve been with us a shile if you are unsure of anything Lisa really has made a whistle stop tour on the handbook – so do check it out
    Karen Newton
We used to get signed timesheets back but not any more – is that right?
    Sarah Davis
    Accounts/Ranstad – any comments
    SaiPrasanna Bangera
    All well, thank you
    Sarah Davis
Nope Karen – because actually we are looking to move towards an easier system where you will just input your CIR online and you wont need to fill out a time sheet per say.
    Karen Newton
    Happy days 🙂
    Sarah Davis
