In an exciting development, we have recently expanded our Speech and Language Therapy Services in Northern Ireland. Two therapists have joined our team, with the aim of meeting the needs of children, young people and adults clients with a range of communication difficulties. With therapists based in County Fermanagh and County Down, there is scope to cover a broad geographical area.
A recent consultation on Speech and Language Therapy services in Northern Ireland found that in some areas, children had to wait 18 months from initial assessment to the first therapy session. Parents also stated that therapy was often given in blocks every 3-6 months, which was insufficient to meet their child?s needs. It is clear that within Northern Ireland, as in many other parts of the UK, Speech and Language Therapy Services are struggling to provide for the ever increasing number of clients with speech, language and communication needs.
Recognising the difficulties encountered by families across Northern Ireland, we can offer accessible and individually-tailored Speech and Language Therapy, including assessment, training, and support for schools and adult settings. Our therapists are also hosting events locally to raise the profile of speech and language therapy within the general public. The events will also offer useful tips for boosting children?s speech and language development in the home, as well as supporting children with communication needs in the classroom.
